Congaree National Park is one of the lesser-known US national parks. It is discretely tucked away in South Carolina's intercoastal lowlands.

Even the proximity to Columbia, the state capital and largest city, makes travel and lodging quite convenient.

Congaree became legally protected in 1969, making it one of the NPS's more recent parks to be incorporated.

Considering that people come great distances merely to witness this amazing display for one night. ---------------------
