This lake is located in the foothills of the Himalayas. This lake is very famous for Shikara- wooden boats and houseboats. If you want to take a beautiful excursion to Dal Lake, then you can sit in a houseboat or shikhara.

The Shikara boat is pointed from both sides and has a canopy over it. Local people carry their belongings from one end to the other using shikhara. Along with this, many tourists sit in Shikara and go to buy earrings, wooden artefacts and saffron from the shops situated in the middle of the lake.

Along with this, the houseboat is used as an accommodation for tourists visiting Dal Lake. From the houseboat, you have a panoramic view of the lake complex. Everyone’s heart becomes happy seeing them. These houseboats have beautiful floral carvings made of wood.

From simple rooms to luxurious rooms can also be present in the houseboats of Dal Lake. Also, their interiors are decorated with very beautiful carpets, Kashmiri chandeliers, and plush furniture. This houseboat is famous for the delicious food, hot water tub, and WiFi facilities available here.

Wular Lake:

Wular Lake, located in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, is the largest freshwater lake in Asia. In this lake, you can also do many activities like water skiing, and water sports.

Mughal Gardens:

You can also definitely give a gift to the most popular tourist destination of Srinagar, the Mughal Garden. There are many gardens famous for Mughal architecture here. The 600-year-old Jama Masjid located in Nohta, Srinagar is very famous. It is said that this mosque was built in AD 1394 by Sultan Sikandar Shah Kashmiri Shahmir.

Dachi gam National Park:

Many tourists who come to see Dal Lake also definitely visit Dachi Gam National Park. Here you can see many creatures like Himalayan black bear, Himalayan grey langur, otter, mountain fox, and musk deer.

Salim Ali National Park:

Ornithologist Salim Ali, built in his memory, is a very famous Salim Ali National Park located in an area of 9 km. Many endangered animals and birds are present here. Here you can see many animals like leopard, flying fox, cashmere deer, and many birds like Kingfisher, and Swamp Franklin.

Best time to visit Dal Lake

If you also want to visit Dal Lake, then you should go here from May to November. Because in the best season of monsoon, you can get to see the beautifully filled form of this lake.

Dal Lake is open for tourists to visit from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.

How to reach Dal Lake?

You can choose the road route to reach this Lake. Srinagar district is connected to many big cities like Gulmarg, Sonmarg, Delhi, Pahalgam, and Chandigarh. Bus facility is always available from Jammu to Srinagar as well. If you want to go to Srinagar by your own vehicle then this can also be a good option for you.

If you want to reach Dal Lake by rail, then the nearest railway station from here is at Jammu Tawi. Jammu Tawi Railway Station is known as the main railhead of this region. You can also choose the option of Udhampur railway station. Buses and private vehicles are easily available from the railway station to the city.

If you want to reach this Lake by air, then Srinagar International Airport can be an easy option for you. This airport is connected to many major cities within and outside India. The distance between the airport and Dal Lake is about 22 km.
